Beacons

The Next Generation Beacons platform

The new beacons transmit in a 1 min sequence starting with PI4 (call) then CW (call and locator) and finally a carrier until the next cycle begins at the 0 second using the Next Generation Beacons platform. The beacons are frequency and time locked to GPS via the 10 MHz GPSDO and 1 GHz VCO-PLL clock units.

28 MHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter and a 20 W PA using a pair of Mitsubishi RD16HHF1.  The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ. The antenna is a Turnstile built by Ivan, OZ7IS. The antenna is located 95 m ASL. The ERP is 10 W.

40 MHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter and a 20 W PA using a pair of Mitsubishi RD16HHF1.  The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, and Steen, OZ5N. The antenna is a halo built by Ernst, OZ2UD, and modified by Ivan, OZ7IS. The antenna is located 97 m ASL. The ERP is 10 W.

50 MHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter and 25 W from a Mitsubishi M57735 power module. The beacon is built by Bo, OZ2M, Henning, OZ9GE, and Michael, OZ2ELA. The antenna is an omni directional big wheel. The antenna is located 98 m ASL. The ERP is 25 W.

70 MHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter and 25 W from a Mitsubishi RA30H0608M power module. The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ. The antenna is an omni directional big wheel built by Ernst, OZ2UD. The antenna is located 100 m ASL. The ERP is 25 W.

144 MHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter and  25 W from a Mitsubishi RA30H1317M power module. The beacon is built by Bo, OZ2M, Henning, OZ9GE, and Michael, OZ2ELA. The antenna is a pair of omni directional big wheels. The antenna is located 102 m ASL. The ERP is 50 W.

432 MHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter and 25 W from a Mitsubishi RA30H4047M power module.  The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ. The antenna is three omni directional big wheels. The antenna is located 103 m ASL. The ERP is 75 W.

1,3 GHz

The beacon uses the Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter operating directly at the output frequency, using the Super Nyquist principle per Analog Devices AN-939, and 12 W from a Mitsubishi RA18H1213M power module.  The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, Jens Ole, OZ9ZZ, and Steen, OZ5N. The antenna is a 9 dB slotted wave guide. The antenna is located 95 m ASL. The ERP is 90 W.

The new beacon uses a power module, RA18H1213G, but we are not satisfied with the efficiency. So if you have a rugged and power efficient design for 15-25 W for 12 V please get in contact with us.

2,4 GHz

The beacon uses the Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter operating at half the beacon frequency, using the Super Nyquist principle per Analog Devices AN-939. The signal is then doubled and amplified to 5 W. The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, Jens Ole, OZ9ZZ, and Steen, OZ5N. The antenna is a 9 dB slotted wave guide. The antenna is located 98 m ASL. The ERP is 30 W.

3,4 GHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter. The signal is multiplied nine times and amplified to 9 W. The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, and Michael, OZ2ELA. The antenna is an omni directional Wave Guide Slot. The antenna is located 96 m ASL. The ERP is 50 W.

5,7 GHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter. The signal is multiplied 16 times and amplified to 8 W. The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, and Steen, OZ5N. The antenna is an omni directional Wave Guide Slot. The antenna is located 98 m ASL. The ERP is 50 W.

10 GHz

The beacon uses a Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter. The signal is multiplied 32 times and amplified to 8 W. The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, and Steen, OZ5N. The antenna is an omni directional Wave Guide Slot. The antenna is located 97 m ASL. The ERP is 80 W.

24 GHz

The beacon uses the Next Generation Beacons DDS unit as exciter operating at 1,2 GHz, using the Super Nyquist principle per Analog Devices AN-939. The signal is then multiplied 20 times and amplified to 2 W. The beacon is built by Arne, OZ5GQ, Steen, OZ5N, and Jens Ole, OZ9ZZ. The antenna is an omni directional Wave Guide Slot. The antenna is located 97 m ASL. The ERP is 20 W.
